Project Public Spheres
The research project Public Spheres (Teilprojekt Öffentlichkeiten, TP Ö) focusses on the interplay between the arts and the academia in different realms of public space. The arts and the academia do not relate to one another merely as mutual observers, instead interacting in diverse forms of cooperation that often have a public dimension. Under these conditions, RP Public Spheres will seek to develop its own topic-specific forms of scientific and knowledge communication. Cooperation and dialogue will be developed in three laboratory formats – the Intervention Space Art and Academia, Forum: The Present and the Future Lab, seeking to answer the following questions: How can spaces be opened up in which forms of intervention in both theory and practice are jointly questioned and opened up to public discussion? Which audiences can be addressed via the interplay of art and academia? Which formats are best adapted to creating dialogue concerning the opportunities and limitations of artistic intervention? How are public spaces for the everyday practice of the arts and sciences affected by changes in forms of communication brought on by globalisation, digitalization, and current experiences of pandemics? The research projects Public Spheres and Reflection will be in continuous and close exchange with one another, a process by which the three laboratory formats will continue to be critically questioned and further developed.
