Talk | Afrocaribbean Sound Interventions. With Don Alirio and Antonio Monte
Event in Spanish spoken language with partially English translation | free admission | no registration requested | barrier-free access
This event explores the transformative potential of Afro-Caribbean music as a form of cultural and political intervention. Don Alirio and Prof. Dr. Antonio Monte (Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica) examine how music serves as an expression of Afro-Caribbean identities, creating spaces for resistance and empowerment both historically and in the present. Through the analysis of sonic practices, the discussion will delve into how musical traditions of Afro-Caribbean communities are sustained, reinterpreted, and made visible in postcolonial contexts.
Organized by Susanne Zepp, Mariana Simoni, Maëlle Karl and Kaimé Guerrero Valencia from project A03.
