The Collaborative Research Center 1512 "Intervening Arts” presents the laboratory format Forum: The Present. Led by Mariama Diagne (from sub-project B02), choreographer Olivia Hyunsin Kim, and students of the master’s program in dance studies (Tanzwissenschaft) at the Freie Universität Berlin, pose the following questions: How European is the performing arts canon, really? How might (or did, or does) a choreographic, movement-based intervention into dance institutions’ colonial structures look? How effective could such an intervention be? What kind of reflection, and what specific questioning of practices of the performing arts and its canon can be used to identify ingrained habits of a (post)colonial gaze in order to design an updated view of the present?
